Ruth Tan

Associate

Ruth is a qualified Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Her practice is with a focus on commercial dispute resolution, particularly in the shipping and international trade sectors.

Ruth graduated with a Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from Singapore Management University in 2023, She represented Singapore Management University in Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot (2022) and in Stetson Environmental Law Moot (2023) and is now the head coach to the Stetson Environmental Law Moot teams in Singapore Management University.

Ruth advises on commercial disputes, with a particular focus on shipping matters. She has been involved in a variety of complex, high-value commercial disputes, including international arbitrations under Singapore International Arbitration Centre and London Maritime Arbitrators Association rules. Her expertise includes charterparty disputes, cargo claims, bunker disputes and ship arrests. Ruth has also advised on a contentious probate matter in relation to the validity of a will and criminal matters involving fraud and breach of employment regulations. Notable cases include acting for a businessman in an eight-figure arbitration claim and advising shipowners in relation to the vessel’s detention in Ukraine.

Prior to law school, Ruth graduated with Honours in Sociology at National University of Singapore and obtained her teaching diploma at the National Institute of Education. Ruth has a diverse experience spanning from producing high-stakes analyses in national security to establishing a profitable creative business. Her background and experiences bring a distinctive analytical perspective to the firm’s practice.

In her role as a legal associate, Ruth is committed to delivering timely commercial solutions to clients. She is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin.
